Romantic Vienna and the Jews: stories and sentiments
November 12 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
With the Wallace Ensemble, Benjamin Wolf, and guests Cantor Heller and Philip Keller
On this important weekend of remembrance we present a concert of music from Vienna, cultural capital of Europe and home to many famous musicians, both Jewish and non-Jewish. Our programme includes two of Mahler’s most romantic orchestral excerpts, as well as favourite melodies by waltz kings Strauss and Straus, both of Jewish heritage. Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony – a favourite with audiences all over the world – rubs shoulders with new arrangements of music by his friend Salomon Sulzer, Vienna’s most famous cantor, and one of Belsize Square’s house composers. Join us for beautiful memories and romantic moments.
- Mahler : Blumine; Adagietto from Symphony no 5
- Schubert : Unfinished Symphony no 8
- Waltzes by Strauss and Straus
- Arrangements of Sulzer by our house composer Benjamin Wolf
Tickets £15 (students £10) including strudel and coffee. Book online.
