Cheder Decides!
Once again, we are asking our cheder students to participate in a vote to select one of the charities to be supported at our Israel Dinner on April 25th.
Please click the link at the foot of this page to register your vote - provided you are a bona fide student of the Belsize Square Cheder!
We have three charities for you to choose from: Intra, Misholim and Crossroads.
INTRA is a unique and pioneering centre for therapeutic horse riding for children and adults from many different backgrounds. From a paralyzed soldier regaining the ability to walk to a formerly non-verbal child with autism who learns to speak, the healing powers of horses transform lives. INTRA uses riding to improve mobility and restore self-worth. They work with a wide range of physical, psychological and behavioural issues and achieve success where other therapies have failed.
The specially trained horses and highly skilled therapists at INTRA give the riders confidence to overcome disability and live fuller lives.
INTRA needs funds for a new pony of to pay for children with special needs to have lessons.
MISHOLIM is a therapeutic centre that treats children with communication disorders. Misholim believes that every child should be able to express his or herself. Using art, drama and music therapies, Misholim treats children with a wide range of emotional, developmental and neurological disabilities. Many of these children have been struggling for years to make friends or to be understood. Dedicated teams of therapists harness artistic expression to allow these silenced children to work through their feelings and, in many cases, integrate successfully into mainstream classrooms. Individual and group sessions involving the family ensure that progress continues outside the centre. Misholim gives children a voice.
Misholim needs funds to be able to accept 20% more at-risk children to their centre. They would like to develop a website to showcase the work that it does to parents and children, they want to build a sun cover and put benches in their garden outside.
CROSSROADS is an outreach and education centre for Jerusalem's teens-at-risk. Crossroads provides English-speaking teens with social workers, counsellors and educators as well as clean clothing, toiletries and a safe place to be. The Crossroads team are out on the streets every night to encourage this vulnerable group to come to the centre and begin to turn their lives around. The teens are helped with education, employment and are given support with issues like substance and alcohol abuse. Crossroads gives troubled young people the skills and support to get their lives back on track.
Crossroads needs funds for outdoor night-time programming and therapeutic social activities.
