| Belsize at 70: a musical celebration |
|
Rabbi Rodney Mariner and his wife Sue commissioned the concerto last year, and the audience was treated to a powerful and deeply moving work which attempted to tell the story of the community and its musical heritage from nineteenth century Germany to twentieth century England – as a consequence of the enforced exile of European Jewry.
The concert also featured performances by organist Michael Cayton, soprano Alice Woodbridge and the brilliant improvisations of pianist David Lawrence, as well as a cameo appearance from Our Congregation’s columnist Fritz Klopstick.
It was a truly memorable evening for all who attended, and the bonus for those who didn’t is that a CD of the concerto and other parts of Belsize Square’s musical heritage is available. Contact the office to order your copy.
