The Synagogue recently released a CD entitled Todah V’Zimrah. It follows an earlier CD of High Holyday music. It has two separate components: recordings of our festival music by Cantor Cohen Falah and the professional choir, and also a cello concerto – the Etz Chayim concerto – commissioned from Benjamin Wolf for our 70th anniversary.
This concerto was performed at a special concert in March 2009. The cellist is the superb Gemma Rosefield, who has won a number of awards and is building an international reputation. Since its release in March, the CD has consistently been amongst the best-selling CDs available from Jewish Music Distribution (the UK’s principal distributor of Jewish music), and it is now available for download from CD Baby and iTunes.
You can also read reviews of the Etz Chayim cello concerto published in Jewish Renaissance Magazine and the Journal of the Association of Jewish Refugees.
The choral music on our CD consists of compositions by Sulzer and Lewandowski, as well as by émigré composers Isadore Freed and Heinrich Schalit, Sue Mariner and Cantor Norman Cohen Falah. The full text of the CD booklet is available on the CD Baby website.
