Rabbi Rodney Mariner served Belsize Square Synagogue as its spiritual leader for 29 years before retiring at the end of May 2011.
Born in Melbourne, Victoria, in 1941, he won a scholarship to the Hebrew Union College in Jerusalem, before completing his rabbinic studies at Leo Baeck College in London, where he obtained semicha in 1976.
After spells at North Western Reform Synagogue, Alyth Gardens and Edgware and District Reform Synagogue, he was inducted at Belsize Square in 1982.
He has edited and translated the synagogue's own prayer books for Shabbat, Evening Prayers and the Festivals, and his work in the wider community has included the office of Convenor of the Rabbinical Court of the Reform Synagogues of Great Britain. |
